He uses Hanna to ensure that Mona can stay in Rosewood. The third season we learn that his father was committed to a sanitarium due to mental illness. That close to A events and not involved at all? Hard to believe… He also happens upon Spencer while she’s crying after breaking up with Toby so she can protect him from A. He checks in on Toby after he breaks his arm when his scaffolding falls apart thanks to A loosening the bolts. He attends to Emily after she has been essentially poisoned with HGH by A.
The second season, especially after Ian died, Wren started showing up in A’s aftermath.
We learn he took latin, doesn’t come from a family like the Hastings, and drinks two drinks we see A later drinking (scotch and a vodka soda with lime that Spencer jokingly ordered). We learned that he wasn’t a terribly honest or trustworthy person (the “does Melissa need to know everything” statement when he gets caught smoking and the fact that he’s macking on the 6-year-younger sister of his fiance). The first season, he wasn’t a good dude, but he wasn’t suspicious either. Perhaps because of Charlotte taking over the game…or perhaps because he was still with Melissa’s team (she’s gotta be in it somewhere.right?) It also seems to me that maybe he initially helped Mona or played the game with Mona, but found himself on another team. It almost seemed to me that after Ian died, Melissa needed a partner and Wren fit the bill. I think, if he’s involved at all, it’s been a gradual thing. I really didn’t feel like putting together a long post, so this is kind of a summary of what I came to the conclusion of. Anywho, in all my “Wren is A” feelings, I decided to go through and watch his episodes again and try and piece together some sort of coherent theory.
